During the past week, Justin and I attend the international conference meeting, WSDM 2011(Web Search and Data Mining), which is very interesting.
This is my first experience attending an international conferences. And too much feelings.
It is not a very big conference, but according to the authorities, it is of high-quality, with the acceptance rate of paper at 20%. Almost 100 atendees from industry, including Microsoft Research, Yahoo!, e-Bay, and google. 100 from acadimia, including Starford, CMU, and so on.
According to my watching, Indias are doing well at this field, and they do good presentations as well. And their English is good. The starford guys are easy to distinguish, sine they look like a genius. (I don’t know, it is just a feeling, they looks like the sort of people like Gates, Mark Zuckerberg.. With blond hair, smart eyes, fast and creative response). There are also some Europeans, from German, Italy, and so on. And on the first day lunch, we are sitting at the same table with one of the major chair of the confernece, Wolfgang. He is a Germany, very tall, looks up serious, even though he is polite and performs such a gentleman, and smiles a lot.
BTW, I met a guy, who is so sexy, that I even can not stop looking at him. He is responsible for video the whole meetings, I don’t know his name or where he is from. Even if he is student or not. I don’t know, he just looks so strong, with well-developed muscles. Very deeping eyes. He often wear jeans and T-shirt. Seldom talking to other people. Maybe he knows that I was watching him a lot. Anyway, we did not talk to each other, except nodding and smiling when come across. Hope that I can submit and got accepted by the conference next year, at Seattle.
Pascale hope that I can decide my topic through attending the conferences. And we both treat this time as fate. I really feel so exciting when listening to so many ideas being invented and made into true practice.
I will keep on fighting, addoil~~
