Each of the large new components of the Mustang release is specified in its own separate JSR. Smaller additions and changes will be specified in the concurrent JCP maintenance review of the platform specification. All features, JSRs and otherwise, are described in more detail below, but for ease of reference the component JSRs are enumerated here along with their JCP status at the time of writing.

JSR 260, the Javadoc Tag Update, will not be included because the JSR 260 Expert Group was unable to reach consensus on a number of critical issues in time for the Mustang release. JSR 268, the Java Smart-Card I/O API, will not be included because the JSR 270 Expert Group concluded that it would not be of sufficiently wide interest in the Mustang time frame. The “JAXP.next” JSR will not be included because it was never submitted. Minor changes to the JAXP 1.3 API will be handled in a maintenance review of JSR 206.
